That’s right, political comedian and satirist Stephen Colbert has written a children’s book called “I Am a Pole (And So Can You!)”. Rather than being a Polish version of Colbert’s 2007 best seller “I Am America (And So Can You!)”, the children’s book is a story about a flagpole in search of identity (Chicago Sun-Times) .

The always charming Colbert said in a statement: “I hope the minutes you and your loved ones spend reading it are as fulfilling as the minutes I spent writing it.” How thoughtful.

Colbert previewed the book on his talk show with Maurice Sendak, author of beloved children’s book-turned-film “Where the Wild Things Are”. Sendak admits that he enjoys Colbert’s book, despite it being “terribly ordinary”. With Sendak’s approval and Grand Central Publishing set to publish the book May 8, it will be interesting to see how the public reacts once it is released.

Is Colbert’s latest book a large-scale prank on us all or a clever satire designed for the world’s youngest citizens? Or might “I Am Pole (And So Can You!)” become a timeless children’s classic? I’m assuming kids won’t enjoy it as much as the lovable characters of Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are”, and I doubt it will ever result in a full-length movie, but we’ll have to wait to find out for sure!
